The main problem senior citizens have with driving is their diminished eyesight and delayed reflexes. It then makes it important that the vehicle they choose to drive be equipped with as much easy handling as possible. Asking seniors to stop driving would be harsh and unnecessary if they can still drive and are deemed physically fit by the DMV. It’s also part of their independence and means of getting around for those who do not live with family. A person who is retired would not want to be faced with the possibility of not being able to drive. It is painful because it makes them face old age whether they want to or not.

At the same time, allowing them to keep driving as long as they pass an annual physical exam is giving them the liberty to live their lives without being dependent on others or the public transportation system.  Being able to increase their driving pleasure should be done with maturity and care. At this age, they are very sensitive and you would be to when you get to this age and suddenly become confronted by so many obstacles.

Some of the features that should be in the car to make their driving pleasure more enhanced would be power steering, excellent headlights, and a dependable car. At the same time, younger relatives can encourage senior citizens to plan their daily trips with more care, giving themselves no reason to rush from one place to another. Confirm in them that they can drive at their own pace but not too slow because that would be inviting trouble. They should also avoi8d rush hour traffic and too many turns on their route. Finally, a refresher course would be a good idea to remind them new traffic rules or routes, as well as keeping them in tune with new roads and infrastructure so they don’t get disoriented when driving.
